Open Loop Sprints
Open Source AI
Global Open Loop Sprint workshops
Open Loop is a global initiative aimed at bringing together diverse stakeholders to address emerging challenges in technology policy. The Sprint Series offers a dynamic format for rapid exploration and development of policy solutions in critical areas such as open source AI.
In 2023, we launched Open Loop Sprints, a pioneering series of global workshops designed to address the complexities and harness the opportunities of AI. These workshops aim to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and civil society representatives from around the world to collaboratively shape effective and responsible AI policies.
Workshop Themes
We will explore three key policy areas:
Innovation and economic growth: We seek to explore how AI can drive economic benefits and job creation across various sectors and discuss policy frameworks that can accelerate the adoption and innovation of open source AI technologies.
Responsibility in the AI ecosystem: We seek to identify strategies for ensuring accountability and effective risk management within the AI ecosystem, by examining the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in developing and deploying AI and to identify proactive measures to mitigate potential threats to the ecosystem that could arise from regulatory approaches.
Inclusive development and global challenges: We discuss how AI can be leveraged to address pressing global, regional, and local challenges. We explore ways to ensure that the benefits of AI are accessible to underserved communities and developing regions.
Workshop Format
The workshop will be conducted under Chatham House Rules to encourage open and honest dialogue while respecting privacy and confidentiality. Insights gathered will be consolidated in a final policy brief as part of these series of global workshops.
Each workshop will feature presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and collaborative policy ideation workshops.
To ensure that all participants can engage fully and effectively, we will provide a briefing document prior to the workshop. This document will outline the key themes, background information, and specific questions to be addressed during our discussions.
Global reach and timeline
We are planning workshops in major cities across the globe!
The series will kick off in Brussels in September 2023 and will continue with events scheduled across various global locations throughout 2024 and 2025.
